The Mystery of Acceptance

Happy New Year, friends.

I keep hearing that 2020 is the year of “#Acceptance” so today I’d like to respond to a question from a friend who asks: “You seem to have fully accepted Kai’s sight loss. How do you think you were able to do that?” Continue reading “The Mystery of Acceptance” →

Navigating Blindness on Instagram

Skimboarding blind? No way! Happiness is relaxing with my boys on the beach ❄️ Kai & Kim enjoyed their first day of Christmas break on Tybee Island. Cash joins us tomorrow! 🙌🏻 🎄 We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season. Last of Kai’s graduation celebration photos. We had a delicious dinner after @kai.owens’s UGA graduation ceremony. Hi everyone! I am excited to share my first essay published by a mainstream outlet. Previously, I have only written for blindness specific platforms, so I am thrilled to share this message with a broader audience. I will place a live link to the article in our bio. Incredible day! Kai graduated Summa Cum Laude from UGA with a major in music theory & minor in jazz drum set. Yesterday we picked up Kai’s graduation tassels. He graduates Summa Cum Laude from UGA on 12/12/25. We are so incredibly proud of him! When my 10yo son got diagnosed with progressive sight loss my knee jerk reaction was to hide him away to protect him from the world. Thankfully, my heart’s desire for him to live a life of adventure and connection won the tug of war raging inside me. Today I am feeling grateful for the love and support of our virtual community. I’m also thankful for living in such a beautiful & historic city.
